Improve your Posture to Improve your Game

Posted In: Articles By: admin 0 Comments

One of the most important factors of golf training is your posture. Incorrect posture will directly influence your alignment which can lead to poor and inconsistent shots. If your body is not properly prepared to address the ball or your body is not correctly positioned, an undesired result will occur. Posture is the foundation for consistent swings, and repeated swings with poor posture can result in overuse type injuries and possibly prohibit you from enjoying the game.

Therefore, posture is not only about maximizing your technical ability, but also is crucial in keeping healthy and enjoying the sport with positive results.

Here is an exercise to help you get around poor spine/golf posture:

Club behind back forward bend:
(*Helpful to stand sideways in front of a mirror). This exercises demonstrates how to flex (bend) from the hip joints with a stable spine.

Step 1: Place club behind back. Support club with one hand behind your lower back while the other supports the club behind your neck. Be sure there is 3-point contact of the body to the club. Pelvis, upper back, and head are our three contact points.

Step 2: Flex forward (or bow) from the hips while being sure to maintain the 3 points of contact. Repeat drill 5-10 times.

Step 3: On the finish of the last repetition, remain standing and remove the club from behind and place it in front and address the ball.
